Do I need a permit?

North Carolina Building Code says, any project costing more than $20,000 or if the project includes structural work, then a permit is required. Furthermore, if the project cost is $40,000 or more, not only do you need a permit, but you must have a licensed general contractor perform the work.

my existing deck is new, can i add a roof and screen it in?

More than likely, yes, but keep in mind, the current structure must be able to support the additional load created by the roof system. Also, the existing rooflines will make a difference, so give us a call, so we can start your design process.

If a screen is torn, do I have to re-screen the whole porch?

Nope!! Not at all!! We learned a long time ago, pocket screens are the way to go. Basically, we make a metal frame and add the screen to it, which makes it a really big window screen. This is the best way to screen a porch because if a screen is torn, you just replace the screen material for that one panel, easy peezy. (Is that how you even spell that?? Lol)
